The one we don't recommend: Kangen / alkaline water ionizers

Alkaline water machines (Kangen, Tyent, and similar brands) are marketed heavily in the UAE wellness scene. They cost AED 6,000-12,000 and claim health benefits ranging from better hydration to cancer prevention.

The evidence for these health claims is weak to nonexistent. Your blood pH is tightly regulated by your kidneys and lungs — drinking alkaline water doesn't change it. The machines do filter water, but you're paying 10x what a good RO or under-sink system costs for filtration that isn't meaningfully better.

Skip them. If you want better water, buy a system that filters well. If you want alkaline water, add a pinch of baking soda to a glass.

Desalinated water tastes different
