• Availability: the most cars on the road. In Dubai Marina at 8 pm, a Careem arrived in 3-5 minutes. Uber took 5-8 minutes.

• Payment options: cash, card, and Careem Pay. The cash option is useful for tourists without a local card.
• Local features: Careem integrates with local services like Talabat and Dukkaaney. The app is designed for the Gulf market.

Where it falls short

• Surge pricing: during peak hours, Careem prices can be 2-3x normal. The surge is often higher than Uber.
• Driver quality: inconsistent. Some drivers are excellent; others are aggressive or unfamiliar with routes.

Best for: most residents and tourists. Careem is the default choice for a reason.

2. Uber — Best for international travelers

Uber is the global standard. If you already have an Uber account, it works in the UAE without setup.

What stood out

• Familiarity: if you use Uber in your home country, the app works the same way in Dubai.
• Driver quality: generally more consistent than Careem. Uber drivers are often more professional.
• Payment options: card, Apple Pay, Google Pay. No cash option in the UAE.
• Global integration: your Uber rating and payment methods carry over from your home country.

• Price: usually the same as Careem, sometimes 5-10% more expensive.
• Availability: fewer cars than Careem in some areas. In Deira, Uber can take 10-15 minutes at peak times.

3. InDriver — Best for budget

InDriver is a Russian ride-hailing app that lets you negotiate the fare with the driver. It is the cheapest option in Dubai.

• Price: you set the fare, and drivers can accept or counter-offer. The final price is usually 20-30% cheaper than Careem or Uber.
• Availability: good in Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai. Less reliable in Deira and older areas.

For most residents and tourists, Careem is the right answer. It has the most cars, the best local features, and the most promotions. If you are an international traveler who already uses Uber, Uber is the familiar choice. If you want the cheapest ride, InDriver is the budget option. And if you want a regulated taxi, Hala Taxi is the best choice.
